Love is in the Air...

And I’ve been dropping hints, sometimes you just have to, to get what you really want on Valentines Day or to get anything at all on Valentines Day would be more to the point.

I’ve been browsing around Kirkcaldies, as you do, and couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous selection of Valentines gifts on display.

From cute to quirky to down right beautiful including yummy things to eat and drink on the day, you’ll definitely find a gift for the person you love most at Kirks – might even be yourself!

Anyway I know what I want – Vivienne Westwood Boudoir Eau De Parfum. Just arrived in the Fragrance department and it’s to die for. There’s a trio of fragrances just in from this influential British designer. The other two are Naughty Alice and Cheeky Alice, so Westwood. Boudoir is my favourite from this fabulous trio. The heart of the fragrance has accords of English red roses that produce a very feminine floral note almost like being in an English country garden.

Naughty Alice and Cheeky Alice are both beautiful fragrances too but I’ve fallen in love with Boudoir.

Pop in to Kirkcaldies and try for yourself then start dropping hints in time for Valentines Day next Tuesday.

I’ll be wearing Vivienne Westwood’s Boudoir on Valentines Day even if I have to buy it for myself!

Happy Valentines Day

More than just cosmetics

Have you been to the Sale?

I have and must admit I did get a little carried away and went home with far too many red bags.

Found some great bargains in cosmetics so really stocked up.

I’ll be back Sale shopping over the weekend as I did see in the Dominion Post that Kirkcaldies is open all weekend right through until 5pm on Waitangi Day AND there’s a further 20% off the marked Sale price in Ladies Fashion & Shoes (excludes Icebreaker & Untouched World but that’s o.k.) Lingerie, Sleepwear and Swimwear as well as Handbags, Scarves & Luggage (great if there’s a holiday looming).

Kirkcaldies haven’t forgotten our men & children and are offering a further 20% off the marked Sale price on Childrenswear & Toys and Menswear & Shoes (again not on Icebreaker & Untouched World).

If you are looking for things for the home there’s a further 20% off the marked Sale price in Gifts, Stationery & Pens (offer excludes greeting cards & Montblanc), Cushions & Rugs, Food & Confectionery as well as that nice Maxwell & Williams dinner & kitchenware. Thought I’d throw this in too as I do venture out of cosmetics and visit the other lovely departments at Kirks.

And here’s my favourite weekend offer – a further 20% off the marked Sale price in the Hair & Beauty area AND Mens & Ladies Fragrance including Yves Saint Laurent, Guerlain, Elizabeth Arden, Shiseido, Sisley & Lancome. Great!

Where will we all be this Waitangi weekend?

Kirkcaldies of course!

Open all weekend.

There’s serious shopping to be done before the Sale ends at 5pm on Waitangi Day.

Skin Perfection

I’ve enjoyed a most relaxing break – not a shop in sight! Imagine that!

Withdrawal symptoms are setting in now. So I’m looking forward to some retail therapy next week at the Kirkcaldies Summer Sale.

Starts Monday, very conveniently, on Wellington Anniversary Day.

I’ll be there when the doors open at 10am.

Anyway while on holiday I spent time chilling out with a friend, idling the days away enjoying a spot of summer sun. The conversation came around to looking after our skin and how important it is to take the best care of this vital organ.

My friend was raving about Lancome’s new Visionnaire skin corrector, works against the appearance of wrinkles, visible pores and skin texture imperfections.

She has been using it morning & night and has seen much improvement in the overall appearance of her skin, she tells me.

At this point, I remove by beautiful new sunglasses (Christmas gift to myself from Kirkcaldies, great selection of designer brands) for a close look and, yes, her skin does look good.

Appears to be no problems using it on her sensitive skin.

It’s a serum that contains a molecule designed to penetrate all the layers of the skin.

I must say my friend knows all the details including the Duchess of Cambridge & her sister Pippa Middleton being among the first in the world to try Visionnaire.

Of course I’m all ears as you can imagine, and might just stop by the Lancome counter at Kirkcaldies next week.

See you at the Kirks Sale.

Happy New Year.

Sun Smart

Thanks to Kirkcaldies I’ve been taking things easy. The Christmas shopping is done & dusted, all wrapped, posted away or under the tree.

So I’ve been able to spend time on myself. Selfish you might think!

No! Necessary. I’m all prepared for the holidays.

Nothing ages the skin more than exposure to the sun.

The ozone layer is very thin down under I’m told. Rather too scientific for me but I’m taking precautions anyway. There’s no point in splurging on the likes of Cellular Power Infusion then allowing the sun to ruin the good work.
Kirkcaldies cosmetic department offers a huge selection of sun protection products from all the leading brands.

There’s tinted moisturisers with SPF factors, sun protection products (remember slip, slop, slap and wrap) and after-sun skin care and of course self tans.

I’m a great believer in fake tan, it’s the best tan, better to play it safe, that’s me!

The staff at Kirkcaldies are so helpful & knowledgeable about how to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

So if you are packing your bag for a summer getaway like me pop into Kirkcaldies for the best advice on which suncare products are right for you.

Fake it, don’t bake it!

All the best & happy holidays.

Talk in the New Year,

Christmas is at Kirkcaldies Cosmetic Department

People have been commenting on how good my skin looks (completely out of the blue, I might add).

“Your skin looks fantastic”

Definitely music to my ears!

I noticed a difference in my skin for sure once I started using La Prairie’s Cellular Power Infusion.

They say it is a skin rehab so I’m all for going into rehab for my skin’s sake.

The four core ingredients, a skin renewal peptide, Swiss snow algae, a phyto stem cell extract & tissue guidance matrix sound so scientific, but they work and give the skin a boost.

I look upon using a product like Cellular Power Infusion as an investment in the future.

Hope you are seeing an improved complexion too!

I popped into Kirkcaldies yesterday just to let Jane at La Prairie know how I was progressing & she agreed, my skin is looking more radiant and less fatigued. I told her how I wake up with a glow. Of course, a definite bonus is being able to use Cellular Power Infusion with my regular skin care products.

Estee Lauder Beautiful FavouritesAnyway on another note, I’ve just got to say “It’s Christmas at Kirkcaldies.” The selection of gifts on every cosmetic counter are so amazing, I was inspired to start my Christmas shopping then & there.

So don’t agonise over your gift shopping. What to buy?

Relax, you will find something for everyone on your list at Kirkcaldies Cosmetic Department.

And what’s even better I’m going to beat the posting deadline, first time for many a year! Thanks Kirkcaldies!

My advice, stress free Christmas shopping, make Kirkcaldies your first port of call.

Christmas is at Kirkcaldies.

Nobody does it better.

Never Look Your Age Again!

I’m so glad I booked in to attend the Yves Saint Laurent Master Class.

Helped to fill the rugby void. Oh the excitement!

Oh for the Yves Saint Laurent Master Class. I hope you were there too.

I’ve already started using the tips and tricks I learned in my make routine. Brilliant!

What I want to tell you about though is Cellular Power Infusion.

The words hit me in the face “never look your age again” so of course I made it my business to find out more.

Cellular Power Infusion is a uniquely empowering treatment serum that can be used intermittently along with your regular skin care.

Touted as the most advanced skincare product ever produced by La Prairie, it has certainly grabbed my attention.

Apparently the Cellular Power Infusion is the result of 70 years of research, contains three patent-pending technologies and is designed to kick-start skin’s renewal process to give younger looking skin.

Jane at the La Prairie counter knows all about it.

“Start using it today & never look your age again” was Jane’s advice.

You know me! Always act on good advice.

If you are concerned about aging & your skin needs a boost you should visit the La Prairie counter too & allow the expert to introduce you to Cellular Power Infusion.

It’s early days yet for me, but I’ll report back soon.

It's Magic

Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclat Dragged myself away from the fanzone on Sunday for a spot of beauty shopping.

All this rugby & late nights are playing havoc with my appearance.

So it’s been Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclat Radiant Touch to the rescue!

Correctly applied this luminising pen brings light & radiance to the skin, erasing signs of fatigue & brightening the complexion.

The lovely Sema at the Yves Saint Laurent counter sat me down Radiant Touch pen in hand & I was transformed.

It’s like eight hours of sleep & an instant pick-me-up in a magic wand.

While I was there I booked myself in to attend one of the Master Make-up classes that Yves Saint Laurent are holding between 26 and 29 October, two convenient sessions each day 10am – 12 noon and 2pm – 4pm. Just six people in each class which means we will receive expert tuition. And we will be tucked away in the privacy of Kirkcaldies beauty room. Suits me, I’m not one to strip my face naked in public and we will also enjoy high tea – very Kirkcaldies!

There is a booking fee of $90.00 which is redeemable on purchases on the day and a lovely gift of a make-up case and three products – so this and a high tea to enjoy sounds like value to me.

Sema’s taking bookings now. I might see you there. In the meantime there’s some serious rugby to be watched.

Go AB’s

Get in the Game!

I’m still crazy for Elie Saab’s new fragrance, wear it every day, just can’t get enough of it.

I’ve even been wearing it while I watch the rugby.

Talking about rugby I read in the latest edition of Grace (that’s Kirkcaldies Beauty Bulletin) about the new Linden Leaves Rugby range of natural skincare for men.

Former All Black Justin Marshall knows what he’s talking about when it comes to rugby so I figure we can rely on him when he says these products are effective & high performance.

The range includes Facial Moisturiser, Facial Scrub, a Shave Oil, Antiperspirant, Shampoo, Shower Gel, Body Moisturiser as well as a great little after match winner – Thermal Muscle Soak – Bliss!

They’re all packed with active natural ingredients.

Take Justin’s word for it.

These products look great, smell great & do the job – what more could a man want.

Go the All Blacks.

Elie Saab Le Parfum

There it was previewing exclusively at Kirkcaldie & Stains.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, Elie Saab Le Parfum right on my doorstep, well almost.

I’ve been a fan of Elie Saab, the designer, since he dressed Halle Berry for the 2002 Academy Aawards. Stunning!

Now, I’m wearing Elie Saab, no, not an exquisite haute couture gown. I’m floating around wearing Elie Saab Le Parfum, the first fragrance by this exceptional Lebanese designer.

Elegant top notes of freesia, peach and rose absolute mixed with orange blossom makes this scent captivating.

For most, like me, wearing an Elie Saab gown is an inaccessible dream. It’s just not going to happen!

Elie Saab’s beautiful fragrance will put a touch of the exceptional into your life.

It has mine!

30ml $108, 50ml $170 and 90ml $220.

Elie Saab Le Parfum only at Kirkcaldies.

Be the first to create your own gift with two or more Estee Lauder purchases

I’ve been hibernating, been so cold, ventured out today for a beauty fix. And did I find a beauty!

I was drawn in to Estee Lauder by the photo of Liz Hurley on their brochure. She’s in the limelight again just now, rumoured to be marrying again! Sportsman I believe.

Anyway back to the beauty things. Estee Lauder has a gift with purchase offer happening right now and what got me excited is that I was able to create my own gift to suit ME.

I purchased two products (need to do this to qualify to get the gift) and I really did need them, the fabulous Doublewear foundation, can’t live without that, Daywear Multi-Protection Cream, can’t ever go out without this on under makeup.

Then I was invited to choose my gift.

There is a travel size makeup remover and a mascara (both handy) then you choose an eye shadow/blusher palette, serum, lipstick, moisturiser & fragrance that suits you best.

But there’s more! There’s a beautiful bag too! Very fashionable.

So how about that? Great I say. And only at Kirkcaldies.

The offer is on until Sunday 11 September but don’t leave it too long. Wouldn’t want you to miss out.

Keep warm

There’s help at hand for puffy eyes

I was back at Kirkcaldies yesterday.

What else to do on a beautiful fine Sunday? I just had to get in and find out more about Estee Lauder’s Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator.

I read about it in the newspaper over the weekend.

How often, like me, do you wake up & look in the mirror & think oh! no! That can’t be me, all puffy eyes and dark circles.

Well, I think I’ve found the solution in Estee Lauder’s new eye product.

The cool ceramic applicator, an update on the roller ball, is so soothing and the illuminating pigments really lightened my dark circles.

I’ll be keeping one of these in my make up bag from now on.

If puffy eyes & dark circles stare back at you when you look in the mirror call in and have a chat with the team at Estee Lauder at Kirkcaldies.

There’s help at hand for puffy eyes!

Take home the best of Clinique

A bonus came my way this week!

No, I wasn’t called in to the office by the boss & told how wonderful I am!

I got a bonus from Kirkcaldies, from Clinique at Kirkcaldies to be exact.

I was in the cosmetic department feeding my addiction to beauty when I saw the sign “Take home the best of Clinique” with your purchase.

So I popped into Clinique to check it out.

You know me, can’t resist.

Quick as a flash I was seated for a consultation. I bought two products that were recommended and then I received my bonus. A bright pink & green toilet bag, really good quality with two zipped compartments AND 8 products to try at home, Repairwear Laser focus, Repairwear Lift, 7 Day Rinse Off Scrub, Deep Comfort Hand & Cuticle cream and All About Eyes Serum, all famous Clinique Products.

But that’s not all, included was a lipstick (great colour), an eye shadow palette and a mascara.

A real bonus, I say.

The offer is on until 7 August.

So call in while stocks last and talk to the Clinique team about what’s right for your skin and you’ll get a bonus too when you purchase.

Ooh La La

Clarins International makeup artist had Kirkcaldies customers, including yours truly mesmorised. Film star good looks, a delightful French accent and purple suede shoes to boot, Claude Defresne knows his stuff. After all he is the person who travels explaining how to use Clarins makeup products all over the world.

We hung on every word, oblivious to the hustle & bustle of the Kirks winter sale going on around us, as Claude applied Clarins makeup products and the new limited edition Neo Pastels colours to a brave young face. Takes a bit of courage to put yourself up on the podium in front of a lunch time audience.

I learned to always warm my moisturiser in my palm before applying with upward strokes chin to ear. Claude even warms the foundation he uses on the back of his hand then applies, with a brush of course, upward from chin to ear. Smoking no! no! encourages small lines around the mouth, and drink plenty of water to keep skin plump and hydrated. There were glasses of iced water at the ready.

As well as the new Neo Pastels colours Claude used, Clarins magic products, Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, a makeup base, Instant Light Complexion Perfector, for a flawless finish, Instant Light Perfecting Touch, to conceal dark circles & small imperfections and Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base, to smooth the eye lid and make eye shadow last longer.

Too soon it was time to let the beautiful young thing see her new look in the mirror. “Wow I love it” she cried and "so do we" we all echo in unison and all made a bee line for the Clarins counter to find out more.

Thank you Claude, Clarins & Kirkcaldies!

International Makeup Artist in town

I’m all shopped out!

Just managed to get the key in the door after being at Kirkcaldies Sale yesterday before I flopped on the couch under a pile of green bags.

Revived myself with a spray of Evian Water - $8.00 down from $21.99 for the 150ml size, a timely bargain!
There were so many great savings right around the store.

My advice is get along to Kirkcaldies with credit card at the ready!

Anyway with Sale shopping done I’ve booked in to attend a workshop with Clarins International Make-up artist Claude Defresne. He’s the person who explains how to use Clarins make-up products to women all over the world. And now thanks to Kirks he’s here in Wellington – one day only – this coming Friday 22 July – two presentations 10am and 1pm.

You should book too! Learn from an expert all the tips & tricks of the trade.

Give Katrina the counter manager for Clarins a call on (04) 472 5899 ext 524.

I paid a $60 booking fee to secure my place and on the day I will receive a 100ml Body Lotion!

The booking free is redeemable if I purchase two Clarins products and I’ll also take home a gorgeous pack of body products.

Book in today and we’ll see each other there on Friday.

Beauty Bargains

Let’s face it, who doesn’t like a bargain especially when it comes to cosmetics.

A little bird tells me that Kirkcaldies famous winter sale starts on Monday.

I’ve marked the calendar – 18 July. 9am on the dot, I’ll be there.

Actually I’m taking a day of annual leave because I don’t want any distractions – bargain hunting is serious business! I’ll trawl the cosmetic sale tables and yes, there will be some pushing and shoving but that’s all part of shopping on the first day of Kirks Sale.

I’ll be looking for fragrance, there’s bound to be a great selection of top global brands at fantastic prices.

I’ll buy up large in the Hair & Beauty Section too, usually bargains galore there for body & bath. And I’ll be looking for lipsticks, nail enamel, mascara and the list goes on.

Always think it’s wise to take a nice aftershave home for the man in my life too!

No doubt I’ll drag myself away from the beauty area & take a walk around the other floors to test out the bargains storewide.

It really is the Sale everyone waits for – my advice girls is, ditch the heels, go for comfort and join the crowds at Kirks on Monday.

9am on the dot.

See you there!

The Lady in the Mirror.

Choose Your Gift

I braved the cold and made a bee line to Kirkcaldies during my lunch break, just for a browse of course.

My eye was drawn to the beautiful red make-up cases at the Clarins counter.

Katrina, the Counter Manager explained that the vanity case was a gift if I purchased two Clarins products. The only criteria being that one of the products I purchased must be a skincare product.

Not difficult I thought as Clarins products are all natural & plant based.

But there was more, I could also choose one of three great gifts from Clarins containing 6 really generous sized products tailored to my skin needs. Line Prevention, Firming or Restoring – Katrina made her recommendation.

Oh dear time was against me that day, just flies when you are having fun & I just had to get back to work.

“The offer is available until Sunday” Katrina said, “I’ll be back,” I said.

And I did just that on Sunday, such a relaxed & leisurely time to shop at Kirkcaldies, purchased my two Clarins products following instruction on how to use them, and home I went with my red vanity case, looks great on the dressing table, very Clarins, and 6 products that work on line prevention & deal with the first signs of aging. Creeps up on us all!

And there’s good news for everyone else, Kirkcaldies has extended the Gift with Purchase offer through until Saturday 16th July.

So plenty of time for you to get along to Kirks and talk to Katrina at Clarins about what’s best for your skin.

A Night Out With the Girls

You know it pays to shop for your Cosmetics at Kirkcaldies.

I’m on their cosmetics mailing list so I receive an invitation to attend their exclusive Girls Night Out.

I went along the other evening, freezing cold night but I soon forgot about that as I joined the 100’s of other cosmetic shoppers. All the counters were buzzing with great offers and the fantastic staff were showing customers how to apply their makeup to get the latest look or the best products to care for their skin.

And on top of that for every $50 spent you were given a $10 voucher to redeem against another purchase.

I’ve got a fist full of those but have until mid July to spend them. A great offer!

A DJ was mixing up the tunes throughout the evening and there were amazing cocktails going round on trays – I particularly liked the Ginger Gin Ginnys & the yummy little food morsels to match.

But when the rum cocktails and piping hot “devils on horseback” (that’s those yummy prunes wrapped in bacon things on toothpicks) came round to end the evening the devil in me took over – I purchased another lipstick and shouted myself a taxi home.

What a night! Only at Kirkcaldies.

Bring on the next one.

Kiss Lipstick Feathering Goodbye

There really is everything a makeup addict can’t live without at Kirkcaldies.

I’ve just discovered Prep + Prime for lips at the M.A.C counter.

It’s a colour-free base which prepares the lips before lipstick is applied.

It makes a world of a difference, is moisturising & conditioning, lipstick stays on for longer and it helps to stop feathering. That’s when your lipstick bleeds into the tiny lines around your mouth.

Don’t worry, we all have these tiny lines, but having them accentuated by feathering is not a good look.

Certainly not the look I want to see in the mirror.

Eddy and his team of professional makeup artists at M.A.C gave me the know how on keeping my lips kissable.

Forget the pucker girls and look after the pout! Prep & Prime I say.

The Lady in the Mirror.

P.S You’ll only find M.A.C Cosmetics at Kirkcaldies.

Pucker Up

Practice makes perfect, they say, so I’ve been looking in the mirror a lot getting those perfect red lips just right.

My new Dior Addict lipstick is so beautiful, glides on and is so easy to wear, completely addictive.

But the best thing is Kirkcaldies has this fantastic offer on lipsticks just now.

If you spend $50 on lipsticks in one transaction at any of the fabulous counters, but not at Mecca Cosmetica or Dermalogica, you get 10 lipstick dollars to spend on another lipstick.

With an offer as good as this...a girl just can’t have too many lipsticks, can she?

So pucker up girls!

Night Life

Here I was walking through Kirkcaldies cosmetic department fresh from my appointment at Dior and and sporting my oh-so-glam new makeup.

I just had to keep looking at myself in Kirkcaldies big mirrors – “is that lady in the mirror really me?”

Anyway I veered off into the Fragrance department (as you do) and I’m so glad I did because I happened upon Judith Leiber NIGHT, a sparkling new couture perfume aptly described as a bouquet of oriental essences.

The staff of the Fragrance area, lead by the very knowledgeable Mark, really know their stuff. They told me the fragrance complements the iconic luxury American accessory brand Judith Leiber.

The bottle is gorgeous and inspired by the Judith Leiber evening bags – it’s just like a little miniature purse a woman might carry at night complete with glittery clasp.

I just couldn’t resist.

Judith Leiber NIGHT is intended for evenings but I’ll be wearing it 24/7 that’s for sure.

The classic red carpet look

The classic red carpet look

I’ve always admired that classic red carpet look (secretly aspired to) – smoky eyes with bold red lips.

Glamorous girls like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani & Naomi Watts know how to wear the look and stand out in the crowd.

Not done properly it’s a look that could be quite scary.

That’s why I’ve booked a 60 minute appointment at the Dior counter.

Visiting makeup artist Amy is going to show me how to wear perfect red lips, show me how to master those smoky eyes, we’ll nail the latest colour trends I’m told and also find my signature fragrance while I’m there.

Kate the lovely counter manager at Dior is booking one hour appointments from Wednesday 15 through to Saturday 18 June for makeup consultations.

I’ve paid a $50 booking fee but it’s money well spent as I can redeem it back if I purchase two Dior products at my appointment. The new season’s Dior Addict colours are so fantastic I won’t have any trouble with this, that’s for sure.

You too can make an appointment by telephoning (04) 472 5899 and ask for extension 543.

I can’t wait to see the new me in the mirror!
